Congratulations on being elected by your workmates as a Health and Safety Representative and thank you for choosing the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions as your training provider. We provide FREE training to elected Health and Safety Representatives at Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 courses. All courses are consecutive two-day courses running from 9.00am to 5.00pm.
Once you have registered, both you and your employer will receive notification when the next available course date is organised in your region. Approximately 28 days notice is given to both you the Health and Safety Representative and your employer. Dates, venue and a course outline will be included in your invitation. Please note, due to the high demand for our training, we prioritise Health and Safety Representatives who have been registered on our database the longest.
From July 1st 2009 there will be substantial changes to how we deliver training to Health and Safety Representatives.
We will be funded to train 2,000 Health and Safety Representatives per year, down from 6,000 per year. Our main focus will be to train Health and Safety Representatives from 7 industry sectors listed below:
- Agriculture
- Construction - with an emphasis on civil construction
- Forestry
- Meat processing
- Metal manufacturing
- Road freight transport
- Public Health - with an emphasis on residential care
We will be limited in where we can organise training outside the main centres. We will keep you informed of any other changes as they come to hand.
